Skywatch Friday - Driftwood on Land

I apologize if you have seen this photo before...I just thought since I was diving back into my Africa photos, I would stick with the theme I started with my Zebra photo below, and rework an old Africa shot for today's Skywatch Friday... it does have a different feel to it than the original I posted months ago...

Have a great weekend, and be sure to take a trip around the world visiting all of your blogging buds that participate in Skywatch Friday...

Anenome Shrimp

Because these little shrimp have translucent bodies and bright little spots, they are difficult to capture with good lighting let alone get them in focus...got lucky with this one...

Just a Pile of Soccer Girls

One of the "benefits??" of being a photography teacher is that I am always asked to take team photos, sports photos, photos of the play, photos of special events, etc...

Today, I took the girl's soccer team photo, and after the photo, the girls asked if they could take a silly photo (they always ask that), so I said, "sure", and they then jumped all over each other giving me one of those priceless moments...it is times like this when I am convinced I will never leave this place...

Happy Birthday Dad

My Dad turns the big "Seven-O" today, and is still as active as a 20-year old...maybe not with the same flexibility as a 20-year old, but can certainly challenge one with a game of golf. He just recently came in 2nd place at the Senior's Championship in Virginia Beach almost defending his title...if it weren't for a long chip-in at the last hole by his closest opponent, he would have taken the title again...

He regularly kicks my butt in golf, and will be returning to Indonesia for some more this Christmas. I can't wait to get beat again...

I am proud of my Dad, and love him very much....have a great birthday!!

Skywatch Friday - A cool sky behind a cool tree

Thanks so much for all your comments last week when I was the guest host to Skywatch Friday...
I was only able to visit a few blogs due to my extremely slow internet connection, so if I missed yours, please don't think I am a snob...I tried to visit as many as I could...

Have a great weekend, and have fun traveling the world through the bloggers who participate in Skywatch Friday...

Just In Case You Wanted a Snack

Carts like this are called a Kaki Lima. Kaki means foot and Lima means 5. So it is a cart with five feet...of course the 5th set of feet come from the guy who pushes it...

Oh yea, almost forgot...the answer to the mystery photo below...
It is a giant clam...well, the clam inside the shell when the shell is open. The clam has a symbiotic relationship with the blue/green algae growing on it. The algae is very sensitive to light, and if your hand were to pass over the shell blocking light, the algae signals the clam to shut the shell...pretty wild, heh?

Ferris Wheel in the Mountains

About an hour's drive outside of Jakarta is a small park up in the mountains. I liked this Ferris Wheel. It was sitting idle, and I am sure it has seen better days...

Water Buck Basking in the Sun

The great thing about photography is how one's camera can capture a moment in time, and the memory of that moment stays with you forever. Even though I took this photo back in June of 2004, I still remember the moment like it was yesterday.

Not 10 seconds after I took this photo, a couple of lions casually strolled out into the grass, and this water buck shot off like a rocket...the lions showed little interest in the buck, but the buck was certainly on alert...

This Bird Has His Eye On You

If anyone knows the name of this bird, let me know... I do know that this guy had quite the personality and was not the least bit shy. They seem to be everywhere in Africa (well, at least in Botswana), and are little rascals...

Back From Vegas

OK, I didn't win, but this photo did get me the second place prize of a wacom tablet and some free software...not bad!! I didn't think the winning photo was very good, but then again, I am biased...

I am back from Vegas, and it was just great!! Some of the best photographers, graphic designers, and Photoshop experts in the world were there giving away their secrets. It was so cool to sit in classes and to ask direct questions to the world's best in the business...I learned heaps, but hope I can remember everything I learned...

It is good to be home, though....it was a VERY long flight!!

It is not often I miss a day uploading a new photo...but, I won't have my computer with me while in the states, so if my blog is something you check daily, please forgive me....I will be back in a week with some new exciting stuff to show...
